Michael R. Minkoff is a Partner in Joseph & Norinsberg LLC’s employment practice.

He has extensive experience advocating for individuals and groups of workers who were cheated out of their hard-earned wages; combating discrimination and harassment in the workplace; and protecting whistleblowers who have reported fraud and other wrongdoing. Michael has served as lead counsel in over 200 matters including lawsuits filed in federal and state courts, and administrative actions before federal, state, and local agencies. Federal and state courts have also both appointed Michael as class counsel in several unpaid wage class actions involving multiple industries including hospitality, construction, health care, logistics, and financial services. Whether litigating matters in court or resolving disputes before the need to file arises, Michael has helped clients achieve the results they deserve both in and out of court.

Prior to joining the firm, Michael worked for plaintiffs’ rights law firms focusing primarily on wage and hour and discrimination matters. Michael has also worked as a law clerk to the counsel to the court for the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims in Washington, D.C.

Michael is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, as well as federal district courts for the Northern, Eastern, and Southern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey. Before beginning his practice, Michael earned his Juris Doctorate from The George Washington University Law School in 2013, cum laude, and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Boston College in 2009, summa cum laude.

Wage and Hour

Joseph & Norinsberg obtained a $397,250 settlement on behalf of a group of mechanics who alleged late payment of wages and unpaid overtime. Despite their jobs as “manual workers” entitling them to be paid on a week basis, the Firm alleged that the Defendant failed to timely pay them, while underpaying them by several hours each week. The Firm obtained a successful outcome in just a few months on behalf of the seven clients we represented in this action.

Joseph & Norinsberg obtained a confidential class action settlement on behalf of a group of more than 3,000 New York office cleaners, led by Class Representative and lead Plaintiff Sonia Portillo. Plaintiff Portillo alleged unpaid wages based on her time spent traveling in between job locations throughout her workday. Despite the company’s denial of any wrongdoing, we obtained an incredible outcome for this large class of hardworking individuals.

Joseph & Norinsberg obtained a confidential settlement on behalf of a group of cleaners who worked for a New York-based commercial cleaning company who alleged unpaid overtime, discrimination and retaliation. After litigating the case for more than two years, the Firm was able to successfully resolve the allegations of all 25 Plaintiffs represented in the case.

Joseph & Norinsberg obtained a confidential settlement on behalf of a master electrician and event lighting coordinator against their former employer – – a well-known owner and operator of event spaces and venues within New York City. After our client alleged claims of unpaid wages arising out of her employment, the Defendant terminated her employment. The Firm successfully resolved our client’s allegations, obtaining a sizable settlement in the face of strong opposition to any wrongdoing.
