John is an Executive Partner at Joseph & Norinsberg LLC, where he leads the firm’s Pre-Litigation Department and serves as a senior member of its employment litigation practice.
Since the firm’s founding, he has played a central role in its growth and has recovered multi-millions of dollars for employees, executives, and professionals in high-stakes disputes involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, compensation claims, and other complex workplace matters. John represents C-suite executives and senior professionals in disputes against some of the world’s largest corporations and most powerful institutions — delivering results both at the negotiating table and in the courtroom.
Prior to his employment practice, Mr. Meehan was a leading civil-rights lawyer in New York, representing victims of police abuse. He was featured in Time: The Kalief Browder Story, the critically acclaimed documentary series executive produced by Jay-Z and distributed on Netflix. The series received widespread recognition for its examination of systemic failures within New York City’s criminal justice system and helped ignite a national conversation on criminal justice reform.
John J. Meehan’s path to becoming one of New York’s most accomplished employment litigators began in the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, where he served in his law school’s criminal prosecution clinic. There, he developed the trial advocacy skills, investigative discipline, and courtroom presence that continue to define his practice today. That foundation gives John a distinct edge in employment litigation — enabling him to build airtight cases, anticipate opposing strategies, and advocate with precision under pressure.
John’s excellence has been recognized consistently by the legal community. He was named a National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 in 2023 and has been recognized by New York Metro Super Lawyers from 2024 through 2026. Prior to that, he was selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star every year from 2017 through 2023 — a distinction reserved for the top emerging lawyers in the region.
Mr. Meehan is a member of the New York State Bar. He is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
